Budd-Chiari syndrome

Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) is caused by obstruction of hepatic venous outflow involving either the hepatic veins or the terminal segment of the inferior vena cava.

Eclampsia

An acute and life-threatening complication of pregnancy, which is characterized by the appearance of tonic-clonic seizures, usually in a patient who had developed pre-eclampsia. Eclampsia includes seizures and coma that happen during pregnancy but are not due to preexisting or organic brain disorders.

This case suggests that nonfatal forms of Budd-Chiari syndrome may complicate pre-eclampsia; predisposition to partial venous outflow obstruction in the pre-eclamptic patient may be pathogenetically related to disseminated intravascular coagulation.
