Syndactyly-telecanthus-anogenital and renal malformations syndrome

This syndrome is characterised by the association of toe syndactyly, facial dysmorphism including telecanthus (abnormal distance between the eyes) and a broad nasal tip, urogenital malformations and anal atresia.

Agenesis of corpus callosum

Absence of the corpus callosum as a result of the failure of the corpus callosum to develop, which can be the result of a failure in any one of the multiple steps of callosal development including cellular proliferation and migration, axonal growth or glial patterning at the midline.

We used exome sequencing to study the molecular basis of disease in an 11-year-old female patient who suffered from growth retardation, global developmental delay with absent speech acquisition, agenesis of corpus callosum and paucity of white matter, sensorineural deafness, retinitis pigmentosa, vertebral anomalies, patent ductus arteriosus, and facial dysmorphism reminiscent of STAR syndrome, a suspected ciliopathy.
