Diencephalic syndrome

Diencephalic syndrome (DS) is a rare condition characterized by profound emaciation and failure to thrive (with normal caloric intake and normal linear growth), hyperalertness, hyperkinesia and euphoria, in the presence of hypothalamic tumors.

Leukemia

A cancer of the blood and bone marrow characterized by an abnormal proliferation of leukocytes.

This diencephalic syndrome has been reported with cerebral tumor, leukemia, encephalitis lethargica, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer disease, CT of the brain and examination of the CSF may be helpful in diagnosis.
