Eosinophilic gastroenteritis

A rare benign gastrointestinal disease characterized by the presence of abnormal and nonspecific gastro-intestinal (GI) manifestations, associated with an eosinophilic infiltration of the GI tract, which can affect several segments and involve several layers within the GI wall.

Neoplasm

An organ or organ-system abnormality that consists of uncontrolled autonomous cell-proliferation which can occur in any part of the body as a benign or malignant neoplasm (tumour).

Although a rare condition, we believe the diagnosis of eosinophilic gastroenteritis should be entertained in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms and a peripheral eosinophilia who have no evidence of parasitic infection, vasculitis or neoplasms.
