Eosinophilic gastroenteritis

A rare benign gastrointestinal disease characterized by the presence of abnormal and nonspecific gastro-intestinal (GI) manifestations, associated with an eosinophilic infiltration of the GI tract, which can affect several segments and involve several layers within the GI wall.

Epigastric pain

Pain that is localized to the region of the upper abdomen immediately below the ribs.

We describe a 24-year-old woman with eosinophilic gastroenteritis presenting as epigastric pain with a history of severe iron deficiency anemia, asthma, eczema, and allergic rhinitis, and we review the literature regarding presentation, diagnostic testing, pathophysiology, predisposing factors, and treatment recommendations.
