Dermatomyositis

A type of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy characterized by evocative skin lesions and symmetrical proximal muscle weakness.

Multiple exostoses

Presence of more than one exostosis. An exostosis is a benign growth the projects outward from the bone surface. It is capped by cartilage, and arises from a bone that develops from cartilage.

We describe the first case of the coexistence of the hereditary connective tissue disorder multiple exostoses (HME) and an acquired connective tissue disorder manifest by the overlap of dermatomyositis (DM), scleroderma (PSS), high titre speckled pattern antinuclear antibodies, and increased antibodies to double stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
