Meningioma

A rare, mostly benign, primary tumor of the meninges (arachnoid cap cells), usually located in the supratentorial compartment, commonly appearing in the sixth and seventh decade of life, clinically silent in most cases or causing hyperostosis close to the tumor and resulting in focal bulging and localized pain in less than 10% of cases. Additional features may include headache, seizures, gradual personality changes (apathy and dementia), anosmia, impaired vision, exophthalmos, hearing loss, ataxia, dysmetria, hypotonia, nystagmus, and rarely spontaneous bleeding.

The "no-drill" technique of anterior clinoidectomy: a cranial base approach to the paraclinoid and parasellar region.
Chang DJ.
Neurosurgery. 2009;64(3 Suppl):ons96-105; discussion ons105-6.
Clinical indications have been primarily small to giant aneurysms of the proximal internal carotid artery; however, in addition to ophthalmic segment aneurysms, selected internal carotid artery-posterior communicating artery aneurysms and internal carotid artery bifurcation aneurysms, and other large/giant/complex anterior circulation aneurysms, this surgical series of "no-drill" anterior clinoidectomy includes tuberculum sellae meningiomas, clinoidal meningiomas, cavernous sinus lesions, pituitary macroadenomas with significant suprasellar extension, other perichiasmal lesions (sarcoid), and fibrous dysplasia.

Intracranial meningioma associated with cerebral artery aneurysm. Report of two cases and review of the literature.
Scamoni C, Dorizzi A, Dario A, Marra A, Pozzi M.
J Neurosurg Sci. 1997;41(3):273-81.
The second patient, a 67-year-old woman, had an olfactory meningioma with a carotid-posterior communicating artery aneurysm treated successfully in the same procedure.
