Immune thrombocytopenic purpura

Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (or immune thrombocytopenia; ITP) is an autoimmune coagulation disorder characterized by isolated thrombocytopenia (a platelet count <100,000/microL), in the absence of any underlying disorder that may be associated with thrombocytopenia.

Cirrhosis

A chronic disorder of the liver in which liver tissue becomes scarred and is partially replaced by regenerative nodules and fibrotic tissue resulting in loss of liver function.

We conclude that romiplostim should be used with precaution in patients with hepatitis C-associated immune thrombocytopenic purpura and advanced liver cirrhosis as the risk for thrombotic complications may increase significantly.
