Tetralogy of Fallot

Tetralogy of Fallot is a congenital cardiac malformation that consists of an interventricular communication, also known as a ventricular septal defect, obstruction of the right ventricular outflow tract, override of the ventricular septum by the aortic root, and right ventricular hypertrophy.

Cardiomyopathy

A myocardial disorder in which the heart muscle is structurally and functionally abnormal, in the absence of coronary artery disease, hypertension, valvular disease and congenital heart disease sufficient to cause the observed myocardial abnormality.

Although accompanying cardiac disorder is not a specific feature of Klinefelter syndrome, rarely associated anomalies such as mitral valve prolapse, atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, tetralogy of Fallot, patent ductus arteriosus, and hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy have been reported.

Subtotal pericardiectomy resulted in resolution of the chylothorax in the cat with the heart-base tumor, whereas medical management of the right-sided heart failure temporarily decreased pleural effusion in the cat with tetralogy of Fallot and in the 2 cats with cardiomyopathy.
