Electron microscopy is helpful in the differential diagnosis of tumors in general, but its effectiveness is particularly apparent in small-cell "undifferentiated" tumors such as neuroblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma, undifferentiated squamous-cell carcinoma of the lymphoepithelioma type, and malignant lymphoma.
