Malaria

A life-threatening parasitic disease caused by <i>Plasmodium</i> (<i>P. </i>) parasites that are transmitted by <i>Anophles</i> mosquito bites to humans and is typically clinically characterized by attacks of fever, headache, chills and vomiting.

Cerebral malaria is the most common lethal complication of P. falciparum infection in children and is defined by three criteria: disturbances of consciousness, presence of P. falciparum parasitaemia and absence of other causes of acute encephalopathy.
