Mixed connective tissue disease

Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is a rare connective tissue disorder combining clinical features of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), systemic sclerosis (SSc), polymyositis (PM) (see these terms) and/or rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Endocarditis

An inflammation of the endocardium, the inner layer of the heart, which usually involves the heart valves.

Clinical and morphologic findings are described in a 62 year old woman with "mixed connective tissue disease" who received corticosteroid therapy, and in whom disseminated and fatal Petriellidium boydii infection with right-sided endocarditis developed.
