Myeloid sarcoma is a rare solid tumor of the myelogenous cells occurring in an extramedullary site.

Mediastinal teratoma

A teratoma located within the mediastinum (the cavity between the pleural sacs that contains the heart and all of the thoracic viscera except the lungs).

In this particular case, it is suggested that the granulocytic sarcoma might have arisen from the abnormal hematopoietic area in the mediastinal teratoma.
